Hard to do theater online.
Is she into acting, design, or backstage?
Thanks for asking. Both actually. She played the lead in "Annie" in middle school, but she's gravitated toward writing. Her play was selected in her high school senior year and sh…
PRIJX is posterchild for not going with consensus - emerging markets was supposed to be the bomb. I own a smattering for my MIL and already took some tax losses.
Not sure what JoJo26 is thinking. Maybe one reason to avoid TRP international funds ma…
I have Merrill Edge. If there is one, they are making a good job of hiding it. Frankly as I mentioned on another thread, I've resorted to learning how PUT options work and selling "way out of the money puts". I'm getting comfortable with doing so an…
@davidrmoran Yes you are misreading. You are assuming only FOX news is bad. OR at least CNN / MSNBC are better. That is a low bar. They are all BAD. The choice we have is between poop and crap. Like I said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. You…
I don't get it. And one of the reasons I stopped investing in stocks and started investing mutual funds. I thought I was doing analysis when I was investing in stock. Either I was doing ANALysis or I need others smarter than me to do it for me.
Dis…
@davidrmoran I'm still trying. One needs to ask oneself why someone like trump got elected in the first place. Superiority complex is not superior, at least not in the eyes of the electorate. I still think Trump wins again, for all the wrong reasons…
Okay, back on topic. Is "value" going to be dead for a while? It seems to me "Large Growth" might continue its extended run even after we recover from the current crisis. We need to stop falling in love with funds. Consider switching FMIJX with an i…
Trump is surely beyond belief. It is a tragedy after all that has happened we cannot say with certainty he will lose the next election. It's a race between the stupidity of Trump and the incompetence of democrats. Why the !@#%%^&* did they go th…
@Mark I have to toss labels to explain labels tossed at me. That's how it goes. None of us is just a human any more. And I'm still not getting offended. It is hard, but I'm succeeding.
commisions are non-existent. you only pay by # of contracts you trade. And it is 65 cents at Schwab, Fidelity and TD Ameritrade. At Vanguard it is $1.0
I made $500 selling OTM puts in SPY last week in my fidelity account. SPY has 3 expiry dates eve…
@davidrmohan I call it like I see it. These days "liberals" are hell bent on public shaming. If you don't agree with them you are either a trump supporter, a nazi, or a racist. I've never affiliated myself with any party. Perhaps that's why I feel t…
I work in IT as I'm sure people here know. So I work with a lot of people from India. The hit job John Oliver did on Modi did not go down well with them. It's good they don't have the numbers to make a difference, but if they did I would predict Tru…
I hope it is also one of the best 5 buying opportunities of his investors life. He will always earn management fees and buy yachts regardless of what's happening in the markets or the price of oil.
Sorry folks. John Oliver himself is an hypocrite who will do whatever he needs to make a show. Don't think MSNBC and CNN are any better. They are ALL the same. The problem is comedians are not providing made up news and outrage and news channels are…
Vanguard cannot do multiplication and division, and their rounding is a matter of opinion not logic, as I find out each year while doing taxes.
It's good to be Vanguard, eh?
@rforno Yields on MM are so low at Vanguard, I can go so much OTM and still make more. I'm going to do simulated portfolios to confirm this of course for a couple of weeks before I do it. Not even sure how good options trading is at Vanguard, but I'…
@ET91 Yup, I always take care. In any case hard to prove wash sale with those two funds. You cannot simply take M* classification. The legal term is "substantially similar". One would have to prove co-relation.
I tried doing Fund Compare on M*, but…
@msf - I started another thread on using options to generate income instead. Marcus and Amex Personal Savings are FDIC insured and yielding around 1.5%. Vanguard Prime is yielding around 0.6, Treasury MM little lower. There was as a Time Prime was y…
Bad fund records are erased by closing funds and starting new ones. Maybe Cinnamond finally reclaims his mojo.
Full disclosure, I did end up initiating a position with PVCMX. But only because I wanted to keep some "small value", I can buy at Vangu…
Vanguard says this is to preserve yield as rates on Treasury paper plummet. If there isn't a lot of money flowing in (net), the fund doesn't have to buy a lot of low yielding notes all at once. So closing is a good thing for existing investors.

@BenWP I agree with your strategy. No one can tax loss away from you and fund you move into as as much chance of doing well going forward. Wish you the best with your choices.
I worry too. Sometimes things stop working and we get emotionally attached to funds. I've been reasonably good taking tax losses though so don't have too much in all of their 3 funds which i own.
I own this fund since it gives of monthly income. This is my "hobby" fund. I use its distributions to do "stuff" I otherwise wouldn't do. Been quite happy with it actually. Was thinking of adding to it at some point. Need to research now.
I can understand you calling BRUFX "Great".
Why is DGIFX great? There are comparable options I can think off.
SLCTX is down 20% YTD if you don't count today. Personally, I am staying away from such "Greatness".
The entire investing world has been telling us to invest in short term bonds since the great recession. It pains me greatly to see how short term bonds have performed against long term bonds.
Of course I'm not invested in a fund that's returned 8% …
@TheShadow I understood the probability of it coming to eviction was low and tax gets paid because that's the FIRST thing that gets paid even before mortgage. However based on @LewisBraham comment, maybe this fact makes it even harder for family to …
@LewisBraham Now when you put it that way...
I didn't think this would hasten / force eviction. I assumed that would happen anyways. Instead of government owning the property, same government who takes OUR money to bail out banks, how about we own s…
My 2 cents, don't buy fund until it reaches critical mass. Even PVCMX shows it has less than 10MM. I've had too many funds close on me, so I'm staying away.
PS - M* saying ONERX up over 8% today. Seriously...
@VintageFreak What's the cash flow worth if you lose your principal during a market downturn? A collared strategy, write a call, buy a put, might be safer and more bond-like, for providing income, although you'll get less income as a result. A cove…
I got out yesterday from OAKBX in my IRA. Eff this S***.
I'm going to buy 100 SPY and sell 1 Covered Call All every week. Need to generate my own cash flow. I cannot rely on bonds in "balanced" funds providing ballast. If market keeps going down I …
Remember, Mr. Cinnamond will suddenly decide he has had enough and go to eat Cinnabon. Until funds assets reach critical mass I'm staying away.
Also we have to look forward. Small Value. I'm sorry but he started fund this time at right time and doe…
I'm Master Artisan trader. I cycle in / out of their funds. I cylced out a little early in 2019 and didn't enjoy gains, and then was happy in February. However I started adding a bit and the floor simply fell our from under their funds.
So I'm wait…
Could FMIJX mishap be because of unforeseen redemption by hit-n-run investors. Not to say this is not a problem for other funds as well. Just wondering if managers got caught with their pants down because they didn't have any cash on hand to meet re…
@Puddnhead. I'm not talking about selling and going to cash. I'm talking about selling, booking tax loss, and investing the proceeds myself. I made the comment on another post. If oil goes up 15% and FSENX goes down 2%, then WTF am I trying to diver…
