@BaluBalu- thanks for the info. Re job experience vs learning, speaking for myself I was always learning something new, right to the very end. And I was regarded as "the guy who wrote the book" at our shop.
@BaluBalu- I'm a little confused by "if there is no fees being charged, then you know for sure it is a new issue", because I frequently buy secondary Treasury issues at Schwab which show "No Fee" on the trade ticket. That would seem to suggest diffe…

Indeed. There, my friends, is the story of our …
@BaluBalu- There's actually one more step to Mike's directions- as he said, go to Research - Bonds, CDs and Fixed Income, and then clicking on "Find Bonds & Fixed Income" takes you to a new "Find Bonds" page where you click "Bond Type" to selec…
Same here- going to move another 10% of Schwab SUTXX MMKT into 2 or 3 yr Treasuries- looking to get income spread to 50% MMKT / 50% fixed, out to 2028.
"the populations of the two states will accept any result/resolution other than the complete and total annihilation of the other"
@Mark - Well, I'm not at all certain about "the populations", but for sure there are a significant number of people in…
I'm 85, and have never voted for anyone other than the Democratic presidential candidate. For the first time in my life I would vote for someone other than Biden, specifically to protest his tolerance of the Gaza situation. Unfortunately, my only ot…
Being very hard of hearing I have to use Schwab's "Chat" option. Their Chat service reps are uniformly friendly and helpful, no matter which part of the US they answer from (so far that's been Texas, Colorado, and one other place back East that I ca…
Well, it's a pretty sure thing that Amazon boosts their price by at least 5% to cover the cost of the 5% that they "give" back if you use their card, and keep if you don't use their card. Somebody's got to pay for Jeff Bezos' new yacht, spaceships, …
OK, both Amazon and Chase keep track of your points. You can convert to cash at Chase, or use for additional "new" purchases at Amazon. But if you use them at Amazon, you don't get an additional 5% worth of points. Amazon obviously hopes that you'll…
FWIW, the Amazon Prime/Chase CC gets you 5% in points back on Amazon purchases, and 2% on many other non-Amazon purchases.
The points are redeemable at Amazon or for cash from Chase. I always take the cash at Chase and never redeem at Amazon becaus…
@MikeM - No warning, as I recall. I ran into that situation a couple of times when I had ordered a MMKT sale to cover a CD purchase, and got caught on the T+2 settlement date situation. I was charged only for the time between the CD purchase and th…
@MikeM- when you purchase without enough in cash to cover are you certain that Schwab isn't tacking on margin debits? That's happened to me, I believe.
Yes, that should work fine. But it also wouldn't hurt to diversify that IRA a bit by funding the MMKT with a reasonable amount. We use the SNSXX Treasury MMKT. Little point in having a MMKT acct with only $1.00 in it.
With respect to Schwab IRAs why not just transfer a small amount of whatever's there now to a new MMKT account within the IRA? In fact both of our IRAs consist, at the moment, of nothing but MMKT accounts currently paying about 5%. And of course tho…
@Derf- yes, one plumber sent a video snake through the under the house and we could clearly see the ragged edge of the defective pipe casting. I can't remember exactly, but it might have been in a cast iron fitting in the line rather that the pipe i…
@BaluBalu - I'm very doubtful that any HO policy would cover "routine" maintenance. Tree roots are always a potential problem with sewer lines. These days they can use very high pressure water hoses to cut the roots from inside the pipe, but those r…
Hey, don't knock the "thin stuff". Our century-old SF home has a somewhat marginal sewer system- one section of the original 4" cast-iron sewer line, buried under the cement basement, apparently has a casting defect which left a small protrusion on …
