Upgrading Vanilla software tomorrow, 4/5 at 11am Eastern. There's a another upgrade available for the Vanilla Forum software. This upgrade includes some security patches and bug fixes, so we don't want to delay in applying it. Accipiter will be on standby tomorrow around 11am Eastern, while I perform the upgrade. The discussion board may be down for a few minutes while we're doing that.
Thanks for your patience, as always.
Reviewing Asia Fund opportunities You might use our own database search to browse for options. It's
Accipiter's Miraculous Multi-search. Pick a category (diversified Asia/Pacific) and you'll see all of the funds. Returns are color coded (cool colors are good) and it's sortable by field (want to know who has the lowest Ulcer Index? click!). The key to reading the numbers is this: the numbers reflect the age of the fund, we give the 20 year Sharpe for a fund that's 20 years old and the 3 year Sharpe for a fund that's three years old, so be sure to compare funds of similar vintage.
For what help that offers,

Meh @Accipiter, I understand your viewpoint. My thinking all along has been that one should separate their investment strategy from their social activism. Activities or causes you believe in should be funded from personal money rather than forcing a fund company or a brokerage to do it for you. By giving money to the cause, you are investing directly.
I can feel concern for Mr. Braham's wife, but something tells me that the amount of research into the area they moved to was not enough to show the location of the coke mill and the issue of wood burning stoves in the wintertime. Asthma is a tricky thing though. One could move to the wide open country but pollen and weeds could exacerbate symptoms there as well.
How's the Bullpen functioning? 38 of the first 40 posts listed in the "Bullpen"" belong to one poster (Ted) for a batting average of 95%.
I've tried to resuscitate a couple of these lame-ducks this week, but they continue to languish in obscurity.
Aside from being a "thorn in the side" ... I was wondering what role the bullpen plays in the overall scheme of things here?

And ... Happy Holidays. Thanks David, Accipiter, Chip and all the others for making this a great site.
Morningstar's Portfolio Manager Price Updating Concern ... Hi Accipiter …
Thanks very much for providing all the links in how to set up a spread sheet along with data feeds. It is very much appreciated. While I am not the most skilled when it comes to this type of stuff I plan to give it a go. Perhaps this information might help some others as well.

Morningstar's Portfolio Manager Price Updating Concern ... I do pretty much like Accipiter, except a manual transfer from Google finance (my old Claris Works/Apple spreadsheet is so old that it didn't know about the internet). Google is usually good at timeliness and accuracy, as is Yahoo.
The board will be offline briefly beginning at 11:00 EST Saturday The update is complete. Thanks again to Accipiter.
Yet another list of links for 2014 Estimated mutual fund distributions
The board will be offline briefly beginning at 11:00 EST Saturday Dear friends,
Accipiter and Chip are going to install a security patch to the Vanilla board software on Saturday morning. They tell me that it's a pretty minor matter; with luck, our downtime will be 10 or 15 minutes.
Maybe less, 'cause they're good. And maybe more, 'cause software is weird. But I'm betting on them.
David
Suggestion re. Est. Distribution Thread @AccipiterSo you figured out how I found so many company's mutual fund distributions announcements.
I figure you weren't using Bing :)
Suggestion re. Est. Distribution Thread @Accipiter I watched your test pass through the site. And yes, with a list as you had posted; the handy-dandy Ctrl-F would do the job quickly.
