@Hank- Looking back on the many years of verbal exchanges here and on FundAlarm, I'm sure that you'd have to agree that I never "beg to differ"... I just hurl a couple of grenades in the general direction of the disturbance.

  • @MJG- You may have overlooked it, but your "Open Left" link is somewhat dated, as it was current as of April 2009. However, the general observations of that article are both interesting and, I'm sure, still relevant. Thanks for your even-handed contribution to the discussion.

@Old_Joe Sure, we can be Board friends. I have quite a few real-life friends with a different worldview. Like you said about your friendship with Maurice, just be respectful...we really don't know one another's backgrounds, which IMO explains a lot about one's political beliefs. In fact, you seem to be somewhere on the "mushy middle" spectrum, like most of us...but where you live, you are probably considered to be a "right-wing nut job" !

Now, where did I call Obama a socialist (second request)? Just kidding, I know I didn't, so you don't have to prove it! But I would like to amend my second reason on why I like Obama on a personal level (didn't want to add this last night because I didn't want to keep stirring the pot):

    2) I'm not really sure if I can beat Obama at golf...I suspect he's still playing a lot, it's just that Fox News is not keeping track anymore because they have to keep track of everyone in the debate on Thursday! Speaking of the debate, it's getting a little ridiculous now with the number of candidates, don't you think? I suggest we do a bracket like the NCAA basketball tourney...much more entertaining.

I liked when you rolled the "credits" at the end of your post...nice touch!:)

  • >> Has anyone read Patrick Henry's "Speech to the Virginia Convention" or Thomas Paine's "Crisis"?

    Sure.

Anyone read Garfield's inaug address (thanks, Jill Lepore)? Those were the days.

... we do not now differ in our judgment concerning the controversies of past generations, and fifty years hence our children will not be divided in their opinions concerning our controversies. They will surely bless their fathers and their fathers' God that the Union was preserved, that slavery was overthrown, and that both races were made equal before the law. We may hasten or we may retard, but we cannot prevent, the final reconciliation. Is it not possible for us now to make a truce with time by anticipating and accepting its inevitable verdict?

@Old_Joe already rolled the credits for this discussion. You got left out. Deal with it;)
