  • Normally, that would leave a mark. Now...not so sure, unless there are additional jail breaks.
  • His comments may influence the thinking of the highest-ranking military officers. Every bit of protest helps, especially from those who have walked the walk.
  • Well-said and loooooong overdue.

General Mattis makes excellent points regarding military engagement and about the need for national unity.
I was appalled that law enforcement in Washington, D.C. gassed and forcibly cleared peaceful protesters in Lafayette Square yesterday to enable the president's photo op at St. Johns Church.
  • Howdy folks,

    OoohRah! Mon General. Semper Fidelis.

  • Gets better ... this one is also rather scathing....

John Allen is president of the Brookings Institution, a retired U.S. Marine Corps four-star general, and former commander of the NATO International Security Assistance Force and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.

I also saw a letter published by the Chief of the National Guard Bureau (and member of the JCS) yesterday talking about the rule of law and such. It was fairly tame compared to what we're seeing by these retired leaders, but then again, he is still on active duty.
  • What it smells like is after the photo op tear gas attack, Esper talked with his generals and they told him point f'ng blank that the military was NOT going to go to war against American civilians and he'd best clear things up with his boss.

The US military just voted and it wasn't for Donnie the bunker boy.

    and so it goes,

    peace and flatten the curve,

  • @rforno - thank you for posting the letter by John Allen. Fitting and on the mark.
  • There is talk that Esper is being replaced. How sad even if that is just talk.

  • Maybe you found Esper to be admirable, @sven. If he were that, why in heaven’s name would he go to work in the most disfunctional administration in modern history?
  • Maybe he was referring to the fact that officials in that "administration" come and go with a roll of the dice, arbitrarily, surprisingly, suddenly, all the time. On little donny's whim.
  • No, I am neutral on Esper. Surprise to see him darned not deploying US troop in DC. This is certainly not viewed upon favorably - not loyal.
  • Well, at least getting fired by Trump will look good on his CV.
