There is a looming Sep. 30 deadline to avert a government shutdown.
The House passed a temporary 7-week stopgap funding bill today to keep federal agencies operating.
The House bill was defeated in the Senate by Democrats who demanded additional healthcare funding.
Congress will be on recess next week.
Speaker Johnson and his team decided late today that the House will not be in session until Oct. 1.
Unless the Senate returns on Sep. 29/30 and ratifies the bill passed today—which seems unlikely—
a government shutdown will commence.

Let's not forget that. The D proposal is all about healthcare affordability.
Each party voted down the other's proposal, by party-line vote, except for two Repubs and one Dem."
Thanks for providing this additional information!
First, there is budget fight.
Second, there is appropriations fight.
Third, President can unilaterally block/stop appropriated funds.
Fourth, after the money is spent, there is debt-ceiling fight.
Imagine how all this would work if US was in some financial crisis.
Would it be a positive thing for us all if some particular, and particularly wealthy, scumbags happened upon "Richard Corey" and took it to heart for themselves?

nothing about today's political situation is conventional, other than the threat of a shutdown.
if it happens, will dems be blamed? typically the obstructive group suffers, but we are in a scenario where rightwing propaganda has , and will, blame dems for anything anyway.
(look no further than, despite everyday experiences, MAGA obeying orders that consumer affordability is not to be discussed while trump rules)
more importantly, will dems accomplish anything?
Hakeem Jeffries, on Saturday demanded a meeting with President Donald Trump
to avoid a government shutdown when funding ends on September 30.
In a letter addressed to Trump, Schumer and Jeffries said Republican congressional leaders
had repeatedly and publicly refused to engage in bipartisan negotiations
to keep the government open at the direction of the president."
I doubt Trump will agree to meet with Schumer and Jeffries.
Trump and other Republican politicians will just blame Democrats for the shutdown.

It did happen when the US was in financial crisis, it resulted in 3 distinct stimulus packages, two from Trump, one from Biden. End result was more debt and a whole lotta inflation.
Runaway train full of nuclear waste.
In terms of budget deficits, total debt and Fed balance sheet, 2020 may look like ages ago. We have to worry about the next crisis and what could be done then.
I hear ya! Forecasting the next crisis is impossible. But, stagflation is a good guess.
