CBO says tariffs more inflationary than originally thought

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/15/trump-trade-inflation-tariffs-cbo.html

-Congressional Budget Office director Phillip Swagel said that President Donald Trump’s tariffs have pushed up inflation, “not by a lot, but by enough to show.”
-He also said that inflation has run “higher than we expected.”
-With Trump’s tariffs stuck in legal limbo, Swagel said that the looming Supreme Court decision is one of the biggest uncertainties in the U.S. economy.

How long before Swagel is fired? He was re-appointed in 2019 by Trump.

What’s the over/ under on how many days till the CBO director is fired is it on Fan Duel? The number might be seven and I will take the under.
  • I don't think an employee of the legislative branch can be fired by the President, the head of the executive branch. Of course, no problem really, since he vicariously runs the legislative branch too.
  • He is the king and he can do whatever he wants. That’s already been demonstrated many times. Soon this very dialogue will be punishable by deportation. Or worse.

Trump will attempt to fire the CBO director because he brings bad tidings.
This is typical of autocratic governments.
The CBO is an independent agency created by Congress—removing the director
    technically requires congressional approval.
Legal precedent hasn't stopped Trump from firing leaders of other independent agencies.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court brushed aside legal precedent—their "shadow docket"
decision seemingly allows Trump to fire at will except at the Federal Reserve.

    Roaring laughing, here.

    .

Whether at CBO or elsewhere, the Repugnant majority on the Hill has decided to merely spectate rather than to exercise its proper constitutional authority. They are the classic enablers in the Dysfunction.

  • @crash. You correctly stated the core of our crisis. If and when the history of this debacle is written, the repugnant majority on the hill will be judged very poorly for abandoning their constitutional authority in favor of the orange revolution. The opposite of profiles in courage.
