And I love Lou Reed! The Rock N' Roll Animal album is phenomenal.
Great live performance of Sweet Jane, it is going into my playlist.
Neil Gaiman's American Gods series had an excellent homage to Lou Reed. I highly recommend American Gods, if you like cool, quirky, fantasy stories. Great cast. Great story.
For many years, I thought Willie Nelson wrote Pancho and Lefty. Until I coaxed a singer/songwriter in a Cocoa Beach bar to play it one night with a table full of empty beer bottles in front of me, and he set me straight. He is also the one who introduced me to Robert Earl Keen, by playing Mariano.
Until a day or two ago I could access UTube content without signing in to Google. Something changed 2 days ago. It may have to do with the fact my gmail account is the one the bogus WalMart accounts were delivered to. I logged in to Google directly to delete those emails and to change my password. I don’t mind logging in to access mail. And I also subscribe to UTube TV for cable & network programing and my Apple TV device remains logged in to access programing. . But darned if I’ll stay signed-in on a computer device used for social media and other non-Google tasks 100% of the time.
I have had to sign in regularly for a long time. I run a lot of cleaning apps, like CCleaner and Spybot, so my cookies and temp files are being wiped constantly.
if you cleaned cookies that might have done it. A password reset on Google would have done it too.
Thanks. Probably the password reset. I also amped up my Norton (subscription based) screening app. It actually flagged a beach in 2020 on a very old rarely used email account. Of course I changed the password.
Thanks for tips on screeners. Will need to look into them.
I can't sign-in to YouTube lately. Owned by Google. If I go to google to sign-in, a blank page appears. I must have blocked it. But you can never block them completely. Big Brother wants all of your shit. Every bit. Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Avira antivirus.
"Sweet Jane" has been covered by several artists since it was first released on a Velvet Underground album. One of my favorite versions is the one by the Cowboy Junkies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk_7shQenFE

My first thought is to disable any adblockers or pop-up blockers. you can do that on a "site" basis. And look at you A/V quarantine list. For Apple devices, double-click on the address bar, and select "settings for...". Then uncheck "enable content blockers" for that site. Do this in the "blank window".

Right on. I’ve got a VPN enabled. Could be the issue.
If anybody wants to link the Utube of The Beetles touring Australia in 1964 (B&W) it’s a hoot. Starts off with their jet (perhaps a 707?) landing on a dreary rainy day. Then they prance down the stairs dressed in black suits carrying black umbrellas. Cheering crowds everywhere of course. Perfect contrast between the dark gloomy weather and the euphoria of their fans. I rather despised them at the time, although I had a teenage girlfriend who adored them. In later years, I came to appreciate their magnificent contribution to music and culture.
Note: They got into a heated political controversy in the U.S. and were booed at concerts. I can’t remember what comment one of them had made. After that they pretty much stayed home and did studio recordings - sometimes dozens of recordings of the same song - which were then painstakingly edited & spliced together to create the magnificent sound.
Another great "story" from Robert Earl Keen. At the very end he says "Late April '95". Which made me quite curious. It turns out that it refers to the Murrah Federal Building bombing. A true story of some young fellows who managed to pull off a small scam at a very inopportune time.
Hi @DrVenture ETAL Some of the below fell out of my brain cells recall unit with the name Lou Reed, and yes, I enjoyed some of his music. The below is from an AI request. I trust the info is accurate.
Everyone here will fully agree, without doubt, the power of music, eh?
--- Lou Reed is connected to Eastern European politics primarily through his influence on the Czech Republic's Velvet Revolution against Communism. The underground music of Reed's band, The Velvet Underground, inspired dissidents like future president Václav Havel, who was able to get their records smuggled into the country and shared within the Czech avant-garde scene. This artistic influence played a significant role in the dissident movement and was cemented when Reed later performed at a state dinner for Havel, who famously told Reed, "Did you know that I am president because of you?".
Influence on the Velvet Revolution Inspiration: The Velvet Underground's experimental and underground sound served as a significant source of inspiration for Czech dissidents and artists during the Communist era.
Smuggled art: Future president Václav Havel acquired a Velvet Underground record in the U.S. and, with other banned avant-garde music, smuggled it back to Czechoslovakia. Underground culture: The records were copied and passed around the underground scene, influencing the experimental music scene that formed as a counter-culture to the state-controlled arts.
Censorship: The government's repression of underground artists, like the Plastic People of the Universe—a band that performed Velvet Underground songs—led to their trial and the formation of the dissident Charter 77 movement.
Later connection Post-revolution collaboration: After the fall of Communism, Havel invited Reed to Prague and showed him hand-copied lyrics as a testament to their impact. Shared performance: Reed performed alongside members of the Plastic People of the Universe at a 1999 state dinner for Havel at the White House.
Direct acknowledgement: Havel directly credited Reed's music for having a role in the revolution, stating, "The music, underground music, in particular one record by a band called Velvet Underground, played a rather significant role in the development of our country, and I don't think that many people in the United States have noticed this," according to Far Out Magazine.
That is some great stuff! Thanks. "Reed performed alongside members of the Plastic People of the Universe at a 1999 state dinner for Havel at the White House."
Reminded me of the line from Sheryl Crow's "Steve McQueen" , "We got rockstars in the White House And all our pop stars look like porn".
Have I ever mentioned that a Dark Highland Green de-badged 1968 Mustang Fastback (Bullitt) is possibly the coolest muscle car ever?
Note: They got into a heated political controversy in the U.S. and were booed at concerts. I can’t remember what comment one of them had made. After that they pretty much stayed home and did studio recordings - sometimes dozens of recordings of the same song - which were then painstakingly edited & spliced together to create the magnificent sound.
John Lennon was interviewed by a British journalist and made an offhand remark that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. Fundamentalist Christians in the southern U.S. were gravely offended. Radio stations banned Beatles music and burning Beatles records was encouraged. Death threats were made against the band's members.
Many of you will recall this song and it's unique sound. Aside from the lyric, the sound gave and gives me goosebumps.
An amazing studio video story of the complexity of this song. The things we don't know about music, and the studio side of life.

Wow, I'm learning some fascinating stuff. Re: Reed/Velvet Underground: at that period in my life, I was just simply pointed in a very different direction. So, I came to appreciate SO MUCH STUFF much later. I'm thinking 10,000 Maniacs and Velvet Underground, and so very much else.
Garrison Keillor and Heather Masse: "These Are The Days." (No, not the 10k Maniacs one.)
Another genre I love: from "La Boheme." Muzetta's Waltz. Italian, with Spanish subtitles, here. Nicole Cabell NAILED this. This has to be my favorite production of the opera. Anna Netrebko. Rolando Villazon.
Reason Google was requiring a login is that the Norton VPN was on. I love this remembrance of the early years of The Beatles. Haven’t had time to view all of it. But the opening 5 minutes or so is a blast. Obviously cuts of their 1964 Australian Tour were melded together to create the video.
Springsteen , Dave Grohl and Zac Brown covering a classic. Note: that they are not "booing" Springsteen at the beginning, they are chanting "Bruce". And boy, does he shred!
