Yes. I've never been fond of Mr. Summers, but I agree with you on that. The AEA action seems more in line with what I'd expect from our "president", and we certainly don't need any more like him.

Larry Summers exhibited poor judgement with his association to Jeffrey Epstein.
However, no criminal charges have been made against Mr. Summers.
It appears that the American Economic Association's lifetime ban is extremely punitive.

Can't remember where it was said, but someone in the media speculated Summers had become the designated "whipping boy" to distract attention away from other more egregious offenders having better political connections. I haven't read the full (incriminating) document. The brief excerpts I've heard resemble immature college frat-boy talk. But if indeed he was a client of Weinstein and sexually abused young girls ... then he deserves whatever wrath is directed his way. Just hope all involved are likewise held accountable.
  • this ban sure seems nuts to me also

LS has made some ginormous dumbass mistakes, although (e.g.) anyone who thinks his talk querying possible gender-related intellectual differences really needs to read it and the exchanges afterward in all of their speculative nuance and hesitancy

  • I've lived 77 years without being a member of the American Economic Association. Believe me, it doesn't hurt much. Psychologically, it probably hurts Summers a lot less than Epstein hurt those young girls.
  • +1 @Anna. If I were Summers I wouldn't want to show my face anywhere and I don't feel bad for him at all.

AND most importantly where is the support and outrage with respect to these now young women who were harmed along the way. Such 'effed up priorities.

The women harmed by the Epstein scandal should be supported and hopefully they will finally receive justice.
I read several emails sent between Summers and Epstein — Summers made some stupid remarks.
I'm not here to defend Summers but no criminal charges have been filed against him.
If Summers is found to have harmed any women, he should be punished severely
and imprisoned (assuming statute of limitations hasn't expired).
