FYI: Contrary to conventional wisdom, the most significant and abiding divide in American politics isn’t between city and countryside, but rather among regional cultures. Rural and urban places certainly have distinct interests and priorities, but in our awkward federation their differences have taken a back seat to the broader struggle between our constituent regions.

I read the two linked articles. Good shit. Different worlds. How to integrate them, or at least understand The Other. So many historical, cultural, religious sources which are part of the recipe that gives us the American landscape we have to live with, now. Honestly, I look down from out of the airplane window and wonder, when I spot some tiny burg in 'flyover territory:' "what on earth would keep people there?"

Am I exposing my own bias? But you see, it's just a sensible question, to me.
