Your political-typology

Pew Research provides an interesting 16-question quiz at this link to determine political typology.

Try it HERE

Your answers are your own, I'm not looking to bomb the board. Do the results match with how you describe/define yourself? Mine did. Who knew crazy-ass Nam vet was a category.

Thanks @Mark / “Establishment Liberal” here. No surprise.
  • Your best fit is…
    Establishment Liberals
… along with 13% the public

I would have thought I fit into a majority, not a 13% segment of the population. Interesting.
  • Democratic Mainstay along with 16% of the public. (I thought I would be further left.)
  • I prefer this test, because the results are not represented by a line.

My results are at the bottom of the page.

IIRC, I have become more libertarian over time. Might be because I don't feel "strongly" about too many things. As good old Oliver Cromwell used to say:
I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible that you may be mistaken.

"Democratic Mainstay" along with 16% of the public. I thought that I would be a bit closer to the middle.

    And for @WABAC:
    My Political Compass

I think that this one is really pretty accurate. Maybe I also have become more libertarian over time.
  • Is that the first test you ever passed @Old_Joe? :)
  • @hank- H'mmm... yeah, pretty much, I guess.

    :) You owe me one!

I don’t know if anybody else does the free annual Medicare “Wellness Visit” for folks over a certain age. Mostly, they try and determine whether your mind is still lucid. Counting down backwards in 7s is one I recall recently. I passed a year ago, but not looking forward to the next.

I can't even count forwards "in sevens". On a good day I can do forward in "ones", though. Using fingers helps, too.

    These questions were very subjective.
I did not strongly agree or disagree with quite a few.
My best fit was "Establishment Liberal."
After reading the typology descriptions, it seems that a combination of
"Outsider Left" and "Establishment Liberal" fits me best.
FWIW, I really dislike the Liberal label and find it to be pejorative.

    ”These questions were very subjective.”

For sure. Just for fun me thinks. I went back & looked at #1 again - Would you rather have a smaller govt. or a larger one providing more “services”?

Well … What services? Port facilities for the super rich to park their yachts? World class golf courses for them to play at?

Or, how about more public parks and beaches for the larger public? More and better equipped public safety personnel? Better roads and bridges? Better mass-transit? Rehab programs and support for the addicted? Kripes, the subways in NYC resemble something from the Medieval ages. Steps, steps and more steps. Anybody over 50 that can handle them is fortunate and in great shape.

“The financial capital of the world”? I’ll guarantee Jamie Diamon ain’t riding to the office on the city’s mess-transit.

"Ambivalent Right." Along with 12% of the public. Well, I can say I've lately been moving in that direction, though politically, I'm still a Socialist. If Hawaii would ALLOW me to register as such. Hawaii is a cluster-flop. The Dems. have it locked-up, so no matter what you really think, just call yourself a Dem and you're bound to win. At least for a period of time. Just ask Tulsi Gabbard.

Why Joe, you're practically an anarchist.:)

The left-right spectrum descends from seating arrangements in the French National Assembly after their revolution. I have never liked it. Never thought it was useful for discussions in our chunk of North America. Seems to be most useful as a source for disparaging labels for people that disagree about politics; often enough, disparaging people joined in the same political party that aren't following some particular line.

    The Political Compass
Before taking the test: Please note that this isn’t a survey, and these aren’t questions. They’re propositions. To question the logic of individual ones that irritate you is to miss the point. Some propositions are extreme, and some are moderate. That’s how we can show you whether you lean towards extremism or moderation on the Compass. Your responses should not be overthought. Some of them are intentionally vague. Their purpose is to trigger reactions in the mind, measuring feelings and prejudices rather than detailed opinions on policy.
  • Political compass here: Libertarian/Left.
Dunno if I like that, but there it is. I did not "lie to the test."

  • Same here. I was a bit surprised at that.
  • Anna
    inhabits the
    left libertarian quadrant of
    The Political Compass

I'm almost in the middle of the quadrant. I think in the good ole days that was called a social libertarian. I'm really not surprised.
  • I "took" the test but when I click to see the result I am taken back to the intro page. Hmmm....
  • I scrolled down and found it. I see where I am on the graph but what do the numbers mean? Minus x point y z? What the heck is that?

  • I clicked on their offer for a certificate and cut and pasted the above from the certificate.
  • Like @Anna - I took the Political Compass survey and landed smack dab in the middle of the Left Libertarian quadrant as well. Not surprised.
  • Well, I guess that cinches it. Like the Baseball person has charged, we're all no-good Commie Marxists.
  • Why do so many Commie Marxists favor financial investment forums? Really strange if you let yourself speculate about it.
  • Wouldn't actual Marmie Coxists be in the upper left quadrant? Leftwing authoritarians.

I suppose uncle Vladimir Poot-breath just might be there.

That is correct, up there contemplating their dialectical materialism, and how to send everyone else to a gulag.

  • I think Lenin and Stalin and Mao would be there. Poo Chin might be in the upper right quadrant. As for me, I landed in the lower left quadrant but not in the middle. I'm a bit to left of center of that square and a bit above center as well, due to some things I think government can do better than individuals, which moves me just a bit closer to the authoritarian point of view. If the left libertarian quadrant was itself divided into 4 quadrants I seem to be the lower right corner of its upper left quadrant. But I still have no clear idea what the numbers mean. The test results say I am
    "Economic Left/Right: -5.63
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.13".

I guess it's a way of expressing placement of the dot on the graph.
