David Gergen, a scholar and a gentleman, passes

Over many years we enjoyed his calm demeanor discussing and explaining complex subjects.

David Gergen seemed to be a fine gentleman.
Yesterday's PBS News Hour episode had a segment about Mr. Gergen.

I always appreciated David Gergen's commentary, especially because it frequently was inconsistent with my own inclinations, so it gave me a perspective on the other side of issues. That's always valuable.

David Brooks fills that role for me these days.

Thinking about political commentators, every Friday evening watching PBS Newshour I still miss Mark Shields so very much.

Exceptional individual. Middle of the road / moderate as I recall. Respected the other side.

    Sad news.
  • For we older folks, eh?

    These two always offered sanity.

I/we are pleased we were able to witness so many wonderful journalists in print and tv formats. And YES to Mark Shields, too.
  • Gergen was smart and reasonable. Surely a great many are saddened by his passing.
