Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene breaks with the GOP on Obamacare, calling to avoid premium hikes

@FD1000, I thought of you when I read this article, but I guess it’s not really your problem anymore as you already got your subsidy.
Let’s just say as nicely as possible, I’m not a fan,” she wrote. “But I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district.

  • Oh... she changes her mind when HER OWN children would get screwed but otherwise F everybody. They're all the same, when it affects "me" it matters.
  • @gman57. This is exactly the point.

I have a female friend who raged about paying taxes for government pensions. Until both her kids had local government pensions. Then a complete about face occurred.

Still, a MAGA Republican acknowledging that ACA is helping people is a rarity.

As I posted in another thread, ten red states still refuse to allow Medicaid expansion to help their constituents. And they are mainly the poorest states. Mainly these folks vote down help for the needy.

  • "I got mine... F___ you."

Kind of reminds me of someone...
  • Fully Delusional, perhaps?
  • Perhaps... ;-)

Excerpts from Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American.
    Bolded text added for emphasis.

"Enrollment starts November 1, putting pressure on Congress to provide a fix before then.
In a partisan twist, more than three in four people enrolled in ACA plans live in states Trump won
    in 2024.
A KFF poll published October 3 shows that extending the premium tax credits is popular.
Seventy-eight percent of Americans say they want Congress to extend the tax credits.
That number includes 59% of Republicans and 57% of MAGA supporters."

"Today Speaker Johnson tried to get out from under popular anger over the shutdown
and spiking health insurance premiums. He said: 'Let me look right into the camera and tell you very clearly:
Republicans are the ones concerned about healthcare.
Republicans are the party working around the clock everyday to fix healthcare.
This is not talking points for us: we’ve done it.'”

"In fact, Johnson has sent the House home until October 14, and what he appears to mean by 'working around the clock to fix healthcare' is that Republicans have made cuts to Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in their budget reconciliation bill of July, claiming the cuts will address “waste, fraud, and abuse.” The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates those cuts will increase the number of people without health insurance by 10 million by 2034."

The hypocrisy of Republican leadership is astounding.
I guess I should be accustomed to this by now...

I'm no good with numbers on the spot, in my head. I used a calculator: IF I were to remain with my current Medicare Drug Plan (Part D) I'd encounter a monthly premium increase of +25,820 percent. No shit. Perhaps it'll be similar, wherever I might shop for a new Plan. The current Plan has run way past its usefulness to me. Go suck mud, Wellcare. (A Centene company.). The Repugnant Party must be blamed for this crap. Not much more love here for the Demublicans, but at least in THIS case, Joe would not allow such gouging. And I lately needed to get prior authorization for a drug I've been using forever? No, TWO drugs?! Just go eat dirt. Along with the Orange Lard-pile, who created the circumstances whereby I cannot receive my routine stuff, routinely. How many postal services in how many countries have ceased all parcel shipments to the U.S.???? Ya, THAT many...
  • I take Speaker (Tiny) Johnson's attempt to spin the GOP as concerned about healthcare to be a realization, on his part, that his party's assault on ACA and Medicaid is not sitting well with voters.

The clueless MAGA voters may buy into it, but will swing voters? Doubtful.

They want just that - to wear people down. To normalize the rhetoric, to normalize the obvious lies. The loss of guardrails. Using the military for political intimidation of US citizenry.

Hypocrisy is their middle name, and they wear that badge proudly.
  • Mid-terms already need to be protected from the in-State Red gerrymander and creation of new congressional seats out of goddam thin air. No doubt, Orange Fuhrer will have ICE around polling stations for intimidation purposes. Gummint has already requested all the info on voter rolls. SOME states have foolishly complied. There's going to need to be extra vigilance by election officials at the midterms. They (Repugs) can't win on ideas, and they know they are the "Party" of Shrinkage. So, they lie and cheat. And add to the deficit in a huge way, all the while preaching how it will be good for the country.
  • No, all the way screaming that it's only the Democrats who are responsible.
