"President Donald Trump on Friday said he will ask the Justice Department to investigate Jeffrey Epstein's
alleged ties with U.S. bank JPMorgan (JPM.N) and prominent Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton,
as the Republican's relationship with the disgraced financier is back in the spotlight."
"The request comes two days after a congressional committee released thousands of documents
that raised new questions about Trump's relationship with the late convicted sex offender,
and marks the latest in a series of demands by Trump for federal law enforcement to pursue
his perceived political enemies."
"The Epstein scandal has been a political thorn in Trump’s side for months, partly because he amplified
conspiracy theories about Epstein to his own supporters. Many Trump voters believe the government
has covered up Epstein’s ties to powerful figures and obscured details surrounding his death by suicide
in a Manhattan jail in 2019.""The Republican-controlled House of Representatives is expected to vote next week on legislation
that would force the Justice Department to release all of the material it holds on Epstein,
who was facing federal charges of sex trafficking minors at the time of his suicide.
The measure is expected to pass, even after House Speaker Mike Johnson repeatedly maneuvered
to try to block the vote. It would also require the Senate to pass similar legislation
and Trump's approval to compel the Justice Department to act."
"
Just four in 10 Republicans in an October Reuters/Ipsos poll said they approved of Trump's handling
of the Epstein files, well below the nine in 10 who approve of his overall performance in the White House."
"Trump has harnessed the Justice Department to target other political opponents, some of whom now face
criminal charges that outside experts have described as politically motivated."
"
'It's outrageously inappropriate for the president to be giving orders to the Department of Justice
to investigate individual United States citizens,' said Patrick J. Cotter, a former federal prosecutor
now at the law firm UB Greensfelder. That is not how it's supposed to work.'"
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-says-he-will-ask-justice-department-probe-epstein-ties-with-bill-clinton-2025-11-14/Comments: Trump propogated conspiracy theories about Epstein and previously promised to release
all corresponding files. Trump supporters believe there was a cover-up to protect powerful individuals.
President Trump is deflecting attention yet again by trying to shine the spotlight on Bill Clinton, JPMorgan,
Larry Summers, and Reid Hoffman. House Speaker Mike Johnson has repeatedly tried to block a vote
which would force the Justice Department to release all of its Epstein materials. What are they afraid of?
If this was a hoax as President Trump has asserted, wouldn't releasing the materials clear his name?
It's very interesting that although nine in ten Republicans still approve of Trump's overall performance
but only four in ten approve of his handling of the Epstein files.
Trump's politicization of the Justice Dept. against perceived enemies should receive much more scrutiny.

Excerpts from Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American newsletter.
"The House got down to business this morning after a 54-day break to work on the Senate measure to reopen the government. Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform immediately released three emails from a cache of more than 23,000 documents the committee received recently from the Epstein estate. The first email was one Epstein sent to his associate Ghislaine Maxwell on April 2, 2011. It referred to a story in which the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes solved a case by noting that a dog didn’t bark at a crime scene because it knew the perpetrator. The reference has come to mean an expected action or piece of evidence whose absence proves guilt."
"Epstein wrote: 'i want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is trump. [VICTIM] spent hours at my house with him ,, he has never once been mentioned. police chief. etc. im 75% there.' Maxwell replied: 'I have been thinking about that…'”
"The second email the Democrats released was from January 2019, from Epstein to Trump biographer Michael Wolff. In it, Epstein said of Trump: 'of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop[.]'”
"In a third email thread from December 2015, after Trump had declared his candidacy for the 2016 presidential election, Wolff told Epstein that CNN would ask Trump about his relationship with Epstein. Epstein asked what Wolff thought Trump should answer. Wolff wrote: 'I think you should let him hang himself. If he says he hasn’t been on the plane or to the house,… [y]ou can hang him in a way that potentially generates a positive benefit for you, or, if it really looks like he could win, you could save him, generating a debt.'”
"In a 2015 email, Epstein gave tips on stories about Trump and girls to then–New York Times financial reporter Landon Thomas Jr. When others asked Thomas for stories, Epstein wrote: 'Have them ask my houseman about donad [sic] almost walking through the door leaving his nose print on the glass as young women were swimming in the pool and he was so focused he walked straight into the door.' In another email, Epstein offered 'photso [sic] of donald and girls in bikinis in my kitchen,' and Thomas urged: 'I am serious man—for the good of the nation why not try to get some of this out there.'”
"But a story revealing this information did not appear in the New York Times before the 2016 presidential election or afterward."
"Despite how explosive these documents were, they do not appear to be the end of the story. They came from the Epstein estate, but the files from the FBI investigation into Epstein have not yet been released. Whatever is still outstanding appears to be even worse than what we have seen, as evidenced by Trump’s frantic attempts to stop the discharge petition."
"In the hours before that deadline, the president tried to get one of the four Republican representatives who had signed the discharge petition to remove their signature. He appeared to focus on Nancy Mace (R-SC), with whom he tried to connect by phone, and Lauren Boebert (R-CO), whom he invited to meet with him in the White House Situation Room, which is equipped to prevent recording. CNN reported that Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, and FBI director Kash Patel joined Trump and Boebert at the meeting."
"Trump’s efforts to get someone to take their name off the discharge petition failed. Johnson swore in Grijalva at 4:00, as scheduled, and she immediately signed it. Now the petition needs to 'ripen' for seven legislative days. Then Johnson has two legislative days to schedule a vote on a measure to require the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files it holds."
"Now, though, a significant portion of MAGA has broken with him, his popularity is low—a new Associated Press–NORC poll has his approval rating at 33%— and last week’s elections showed his coalition is abandoning him. It is not clear that Republican senators will defend him, especially since his erratic behavior—like bulldozing the East Wing of the White House—appears to be increasing."
"As Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), who backed the House discharge petition, told CNN: 'This vote is going to be on your record for longer than Trump is going to be president. And what are you going to do in 2028 and 2030 when you’re in a debate…and they say, ‘How can we trust you? You covered up for a pedophile back in 2025.’”

Comments: Trump has characterized this sundry affair as "The Epstein Hoax."
If this was a hoax, why did Trump attempt to coerce four Republican representatives
to remove their signatures from the discharge partition?
Presumably, release of the documents would clear his name.
I'm curious as to what information was obtained in the FBI investigation.
Will this information be released in its entirety or will it be covered up?
I am well aware of Donald J. Trump's narcissism, deceit, and vile behavior.
It would not be shocking to discover that he took indecent liberties with young girls.
If this comes to light, will Republican leadership take responsibility and do the right thing
or will they continue to disregard their oaths of office and protect this despicable human being?

Excellent point!
in July after reviewing more than 300 GB of data.
Investigating Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, and Reid Hoffman is a classic Trump diversion attempt!
This also destroys any semblance of the (in)Justice Department's presumed impartiality.
"The Justice Department's memo, on Epstein, released on Monday,
concluded that after reviewing more than 300 gigabytes of data,
there was 'no incriminating client list' nor was there any evidence
that Epstein may have blackmailed prominent people."
"Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, a former conservative podcaster,
both previously made statements before working at the FBI about a so-called
client list and often suggested that the government was hiding information
about Epstein from the American public."
"Trump defended them in a Truth Social Post on Monday amid a backlash
by his MAGA base, calling them the 'greatest law enforcement professionals.'"
"He expressed annoyance when reporters asked him questions about Epstein
on Tuesday at the White House during a cabinet meeting, saying,
'Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein?'"
Comment: Yes, Donald we are still talking about Jeffrey Epstein — four months later.
I'm afraid that you can not make this issue magically disappear.
Stop trying to block the release of the damn "Epstein Files" already!

I'm very interested to learn about the information included in the Epstein materials held by the FBI.
Hopefully, it will see the light of day...

(not the destruction of american democracy, economy, and international standing, much to my dismay)
could it be some misplaced sense of moral superiority among the gop? after all, nothing has gotten them this excited since the entirely fictional pizzagate (whose influencer is till a trump advisor).
so far it seems that :
a. there is, and never will be direct video evidence of trump as a pedophile. it was a pre-smartphone era.
b. there are mountains of circumstantial evidence, not to mention undisputed decades of trump 'socializing' with epstein. there could be more such data points to come, with rightwing media prepared to deflect\spin\deny.
yet somehow, MAGA is unable to correlate leniency to an involved and convicted pedophile as any sort of trump connection, him still having vast majority support of evangelicals\christians.
in other words, unless you are authoritarian despot, what already exists publicly would be more than enough to have destroyed any other human on the planet. so counting on item b. to come through seems unrealistic.
I'm glad that Crash's suggestion worked for you.

Comments: Donald J. Trump's reversal on releasing the Epstein files is an abrupt about-face.
Trump excorciated Marjorie Taylor Greene a few days ago after she texted him about releasing the files.
I've read/heard elsewhere that up to 100 Republican representatives would vote to release the Epstein files
and a number of Republican senators would follow suit. I get the feeling that this isn't the end of the matter
and obstructions will prevent the timely release of all relevant material.
to force the release of investigative files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein,
with passage seen as all but guaranteed after President Donald Trump dropped his longstanding opposition."
"Trump's reversal late on Sunday came days after a House petition gathered enough support
to force a vote, a rare instance of House Republicans defying the president's wishes."
"If the House passes the measure, it would move to the Senate, which would also need to vote on it before
sending it to Trump to sign. Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune's office could not be reached
for comment on what he planned to do about the bill."
"California Representative Robert Garcia, the senior Democrat on the House Oversight Committee,
said Trump 'has tried everything to kill our Jeffrey Epstein investigation.'"
"'He's failed,' Garcia said in a statement. 'And now he's panicking and has realized he is about to lose
this Epstein vote to force the Department of Justice to release the files.'"
