WEF-Davos 2026 starts on Monday, 1/19/26 (tomorrow). There will be lot of news coming from there.

US will have its biggest delegation ever at Davos - looks like the US Government almost shifts to Davos for a few days.

The news reports are that President Trump will include lot of US domestic as well as global issues in his speech at Davos.

  • News is that Denmark is skipping/boycotting WEF 2026 to avoid accidental encounters with US.
  • Prepare for major market volatility the day he speaks....if his screeds to NATO, Denmark, and Norway are any indication of things to come.
  • I imagine it is a geopolitical situation that no one knows quite what to predict including market responses. One can forecast probabilities based on some sort of assumptions, but those forecasts would, IMO, lack a well-developed model.
  • Trump's speech at Davos is on 1/21/26, 2pm (Davos) for 30-45 min - that's starting 7am (Central), 8am (Eastern).
  • 6 a.m. Hawaii Time, because we never change the clocks. Geez, what a shame, I'll miss it. LOL.
Surely, it's clear to the world's leaders who will be at Davos that they are dealing with a crazy-ass child when it comes to the US Prez. It's abhorrent just to think that he occupies that position.

    So much winning...

Relatedly, down is up, winning is losing, and we've always been at war with Eastasia.

None of this is funny. There are numerous reports today that Canada is running military exercises to deal with a potential U.S. invasion.
  • So, not the usual TACO routine? C'mon, we don't need NATO or anybody else. When will we finally have boots on the ground at Greenland?

Shrug it off, Mr. Market. "It's all going to be fine."

    Or not.

EU has been prepared for this conflict. They have designed a “trade "bazooka" known as the anti-coercion instrument, which would allow the EU to severely retaliate against many US sectors including technology that do business with Europe. We will see how effective this unified instrument work out.
    https://msn.com/en-us/news/world/europe-may-have-reached-its-breaking-point-with-trump-over-greenland-tariffs/ar-AA1UspVk

We have seen this before.on February 2025 that resulted in several TACO trades. Got nowhere with China. This may be another round of downturn in 2026, except the deficit has ballooned higher and inflation is far from being contained.

Several steps that EU should be taking:
    1. Stop buying US treasury. China has fell to the largest treasury holder to #2 in 2025.
    2. Ask to be pay in Euro instead of dollar.

Canada's Mark Carney's speech at Davos is ... scathing and spot-on (imo).

  • Just read the Carney speech. No nonsense, direct. Marvelous.

  • carney speech : A+
    carney on tough Q&A : B-

so this is what a leadership sounds like when one actually comprehends the topic.
