"Senate Democrats voted Thursday to block a motion to advance a House-passed bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security, putting Washington on the brink of a partial government shutdown that will affect more than 260,000 federal employees. The motion, which required 60 votes, failed to advance by a vote of 52-47."
call me amazed that Dems didnt fall for the MN retraction headfake. there is nothing to trust here until after DHS realizes the money has been shut-off indefinitely. we will be very lucky if only the flying public (TSA) has to sacrifice before anything meaningful happens.
The DHS spending bill is the only real leverage Democrats have to reign in ICE and Border Patrol. These two agencies are in dire need of substantial operational changes. I usually don't support government shutdowns since they're often just political theater. Democrats will hopefully remain resolute for as long as it takes to get these changes implemented. The TSA and Coast Guard may be negatively impacted—so be it.
