Looking at MSSMX Eye watering YTD + 136.75% 1 year + 127.18% it holds overstock.com ++607.77% 1 year.. .too late ? The Wasatch small caps look greta also - alas... closed . It looks like best open option is ARTSX

IWM is a worthy ETF index option for this cat, as are VTWO and SCHA.
Actively managed MSSMX, with nearly identical MC/SC splits as IWM, absolutely blows it away from a TR perspective over all time periods.
Not sure if I posted it here or on …
Here's some insight on the topic, albeit a bit dated from 08/2020.

I would like to know how I can find out how much leverage is used in a fund. I use the Schwab platform. Tkx!
It's being delved into here:
https://armchairinvesting.freeforums.net/thread/733/introducing-svarx
FD takes EVERYTHING personally. I just pointed out the FACTS about his posts on this topic.
He "Introduced" this fund to the world (sic) on two forums recently BUT had to be informed by other posters that it was highly leveraged. Read this ful…

Own ARTYX and recently bought FSEAX

Warnings?
You didn’t post any warnings in your original post!
You never mentioned the fund was highly leveraged.
But whatever....
From what he has posted on this and other forums about this fund, it appears he did not know it was highly …
Don’t forget the most important part of the fund.
The 49% leverage and the huge position in swaps.
With the recent spike in the 10 year and if the rise in interest rates continues, the higher borrowing costs will be detrimental to this funds huge p…
I ALWAYS look at the following: PM status/history, sector weightings, G/B/V and L/M/S splatters, top 10 holdings, SD, Sharpe, Sortino & Capture Ratios, 1-3-5-10 Yr TRs.
Note that in private discussion with another poster who inquired about PLBBX I stated that it is on my 50%-70% alternate list. Mighty fine fund over both the ST and LT that just never made its way to an actual holding of mine.
Stillers, have you had occasion to look at the variants of AIGPX (available at Wells with low minimum)?
Yes, used to own it and it sits just below VWIAX and FMSDX on my 30%-50% list. Its 2020 blowout year jumped it to the top TR performer of the th…
@Stillers ... I've done a lot of reading on FPURX vs FBALX. They are so closely correlated. Good suggestions everyone. Thank you! This is a good primer but would like your opinion. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/balanced-vs-puritan-fidelity-fund-100…
I would add VGSTX to the above list. Very diversified and had a stellar 2020. It is a fund of funds that I have had for 25 years and has never disappointed.
Agreed, VGSTX is an excellent 50%-70% AA fund that is the rough, TR equivalent of VBIAX. It…
Wow! Lots to unpack there...I'll just address a couple points.
DODFX appears to be team managed with 5 of the 8 managers being there since 2001-2007. It's been a mediocre, M* 3-star fund in all report periods, 3 years, 5 years and 10 years.
…
hank: I agree with @stillers that beyond the 3-year threshold DODFX has outperformed DODIX.
Hank, FWIW, I did NOT say that. I only presented SD data for the 3-yr period, not performance data.
On cash substitutes, good that you can take the volati…
DODFX is an international (LCV) stock fund which is inherently riskier than DODIX, a largely US IC+ bond fund.
While I don't gauge risk primarily by SD, many do. So here's two little data points that should answer your question (if the first state…
The funds being suggested by the OP and other posters as complimentary to HYM fund OPTAX are MNI funds. VMPAX is a MNS fund. While VMPAX will be complimentary to OPTAX, but it will not provide the TR or the yield of the suggested MNI funds.
Had the same situation last week. Hold OPTAX and GHYAX and was looking to add a NI. Narrowed it to BBIIX/BBINX and BMNIX. Chose BBINX as an ever so slightly better choice over the Baird offering.
All of the funds listed to date on this thread w…
Yeah, not seeing that similarity in the markets at all.
Drivers of those respective moves could hardly be more different than a potential pandemic with a low 2% mortality rate versus the looming, worst financial crisis in a lifetime.
catch22: ...Those with portfolio exposure to long gov't. issues and especially directly exposed to the likes of: EDV, LTPZ, ZROZ will profit nicely. These 3 etf's however, travel at a fast rate in both directions; so hold on tight if you have monie…
Overnight futures reversed immediately after the Apple announcement and futures, then market averages, have stayed pretty much where they landed post-announcement.
Article: "The country’s equity mutual funds returned 47% on average in 2019"
The 2 ETF with the biggest AUM mad the following in 2019...MCHI 23.7%...FXI 14.9% but SPY made 31.2%
That's funny. Maybe try not commenting on EVERY thread and topic.

DHEAX has been discussed well back into 2019 at M*. Not sure if you are referring to MFO only.
================================
Well, that's the thing about the internet...
According to this M* search, the first post about DHEAX was on 10/30/2019…
Correction (as long as the above analysis is correct) : DHEAX WAS the better fund.
The daily obsession with some posters (especially one) looking back at prior performance and deeming a given fund as the better/best is mind-numbing.
Had a poster,…
I never understood the cash thing when markets are going up?
For your cash portion....why not use a simple liquid index like SPY/QQQ with a close % for sell trailing stop.
In the last 3 months, the SPY made over 9% and QQQ over 15% and their price …
Mike, you still seem a little bitter over those FOUR CONSECUTIVE Bills SB losses.

It was interesting to see that as cameras scanned the crowd most in attendance were looking at their phones rather than anything going on around them.
