  • @hank, that is stale quote for PRWCX from yesterday. Many sites are still showing stale info from 4/11/24 (Yahoo Finance, MarketWatch, etc). Probably will fix in the next update of the evening. But Price website, M*, etc are showing the correct inf…
  • Typically, higher rates and dollar are bad for commodities, but lately, several commodities (especially gold, oil) are rising anyway. This is strange.

  • According to a Twitter LINK, Fido is asking for 15% of the revenues generated from the Fido platform to waive $100 fee on those ETF buyers at Fido platform. Posters are asking, why not such fees for stocks or CEFs? Why single out ETFs? Revenue-shari…
  • @Derf, look at banks' ratings too, or stick to major banks that may have slightly lower rates, or buy liquid T-Bills/Notes if comparable.

  • My Banking Direct (MBD) has among the top rates for high yield savings (5.55%) and CDs. Its parent is NYCB, the former rescuer that is needing a rescue itself. This problem has been pointed out before - banks in trouble often offer the highest rate…

  • @Derf, in one of the rare times now, energy and gold/silver are both moving up, and PRPFX is overweight in both of them. It's stocks are doing well too. That explains why it's on a roll.
  • There is a thread on securities lending at BB with Fido focus. VG (or Schwab) program should be similar. If you signup, you have to hold some hot securities. Even if you don't signup for securities lending program, your margin agreement allows broke…
  • This is also reflected in the Price TDFs (old Retirement 20xx, newer & tamer Target 20xx) that are among the most aggressive. Fidelity TDFs are tamer, Vanguard TDFs in the middle. Fed TSP TDFs (with limited choices) are superconservative.
  • Like other specialized areas, options have their own terminology and linguistic shortcuts. FWIW, I had no difficulty in understanding the articles by @Devo.
  • @hank, this T+1 (vs T+2) rule for stocks/ETFs/CEFs was adopted 2 years ago. Brokers were given 2 years to make changes to their systems and 5/28/24 is that final date. So, who wants to deal with a broker who couldn't fix this in the 2 year window?
  • Trade violations are governed by the Federal reserve and the SEC. Brokers may only tinker those a little bit in terms of giving warnings, imposing restrictions, the number of violations allowed. Basic principle is that do whatever you want with you…
  • Comfort Sys/FIX (nice ticker) is a Houston-based HVAC company and is an infrastructure play on construction boom. KRUZ has oil/gas, infrastructure, tech in Top 10. Ticker CRUZ wasn't available, so it's KRUZ. NANC has tech and media in Top 10. BTW,…
  • @BaluBalu, GEV started trading LAST week as GEV.wi (when-issued), so there is a few days of history prior to 4/2/24. Schwab still shows cost basis of $0 for GEV, so % shown for GE, GEHC, GEV aren't meaningful. Moreover, % for GE will depend on the …
  • Despite a good sendoff by GE and generally positive analyst recommendations, GEV lost power today (i.e. sunk). It made the new-lows list today, -17% from high in its rather short trading life.
  • M* JR has a great piece on Kahneman (& Tversky, his mathematical collaborator who died young at 59 in 1996). After the Nobel in 2002, Kahneman said that it was really joint for him AND Tversky, but unfortunately, Nobel isn't awarded posthumously…

  • @msf, thanks for noting the PDF edits. I am going by my actual experience with my margin accounts at both Fido and Schwab where the initial purchases of anything (including the m-mkt funds) don't become marginable for 30 days. Then, at the end of t…

  • Great! I had set SP500 as the benchmark ticker, so all my PV runs defaulted to it. This may not even be a new feature.
  • FYI, separate PV runs for core-plus FBND & foreign VXUS show US stock market benchmark for MPT data. Same when multiple funds or portfolios are run. MFO Premium Watchlist (extended results) show fund beta with respect to SP500 AND Best-Fit-Ben…
  • I have held GE under Culp. So, earlier, I got some GEHC. Now will get 1 GWV for 4 GE. Old GE = New GE + GEHC + GEV GE that was under Jack Welch has basically died and this is a new GE under Culp - he had retired from Danaher but was called upon …
  • MPT stats Alpha and Sharpe Ratio (in the PV runs, Metrics tab) also capture the essence of the comparative evaluation of funds with their beta-bogeys (beta% in appropriate benchmark). Alpha > 0 means that fund outperforms its beta-bogey, alpha =…
  • @yugo, MFO Premium has several timeframes built-in, but timeframes are otherwise not customizable. This applies to MultiSearch, Portfolios, Watchlists. So, MaxDD is indeed available for the built-in timeframes.
  • That last sentence is NOT new and has been in place, "Please note that ETFs that are supported by their provider through an asset-based fee (and exempt from the service fee) will not be marginable for 30-days after purchase."
  • That is just bond terminology for price quotes. Par/face value is 100 or 100%, 90.00 would be 90% of face value, etc.

  • Brokered CDs @Crash, brokered CDs are expensive for the banks to raise money. They have to pay brokerage platform fees to be listed (25-50 bps), and then offer competitive rates. But banks can raise deposit money through this channel quickly, witho…
