Mechanics of Buying & Selling 5-Yr TIPS Checking out TIPs (and bonds) performance for the past 10 years -- which coincidentally is where Portfolio Vizualizer shows to be FIPDX's commencement, annual CAGRs for TIP, VIPIX & FIPDX clock in at 1.83%-1.94%. The CAGR of the general bond market (VBMFX) was 1.54% (all through May 2022).
By replacing FIPDX in PortViz with TLT (nominal LT Trsys), history goes back to 2004. TIP CAGRs were 4%, VBMFX was lower at 3.27%. TLT was 5% --- but with materially greater volatility vs both TIP & VBMFX.
Looking forward, unless one's view is that deflation will take hold, TIPs, post-bond selloff, strike me a marginally more attractive than nominal Trsys.
Opinions, pro or con?
Mechanics of Buying & Selling 5-Yr TIPS By making ridiculously small quarterly distributions is FIPDX playing the system by claiming to make quarterly distributions when in reality they only do it once a year in December? Wouldn’t that be considered deceptive sales tactics?
Thanks Yogi for your insight.

PS - I ask because it is one of the funds offered in my 401(k) plan. I own it.

Nice write-up by Charles in the Observer on last month’s Morningstar Investment Conference Here’s the picture
@Derf referenced from the article by Charles Boccadoro.
Giroux maintains a 3-5 year investment horizon. Takes a leap of faith for some of us to think that far out. So Giroux has an advantage over many of us. It’s not his money. It’s an institutionally managed fund with pretty much an unlimited time horizon. Were he to leave tomorrow, the fund would carry on.

M* Interactive Charting AWOL? Not for me. When I move the slider to the left, the VWINX total return number does not change. Anybody else? Anybody have a clue?
When I set my slider at 3/15/2021, the far left hand date is 11/29/2019.
Move the Inflation Goal Post to +4.7% Avg - Yellen
M* Interactive Charting AWOL? Works for me. Moved the left slider to March
15th, and graph reports a loss of
1.77%. Yahoo finance says the loss was
1.76%. Those are not 3 month losses or YTD losses.

TSP is going to offer mutual funds. But it seems that TSP didn't want to negotiate any pay-for-play deals, nor wanted to subsidize TSP brokerage window fees (as many companies do). There is
an explicit Congressional directive to ‘‘ensure that any expenses charged for use of the mutual fund window are borne solely by participants that use such window.’’
5 U.S.C. 8438 (b)(5)(B).

pay-for-play deal would have to be paid for solely by participants using the window; likewise TSP is barred from subsidizing (paying for part of) the window fees.
We will never know what FRTIB might have wanted to do, because
Congress effectively prohibited it from even thinking about it.
Nice write-up by Charles in the Observer on last month’s Morningstar Investment Conference Conference was held in Chicago. Charles’ comprehensive summary of the meeting includes some nice insights into PRWCX and manager David Giroux’s methodology. The most tantalizing line to me was:
“The fund used the current correction to reduce its cash from 12% to 3% and go overweight equities. If equities decline further, he (Giroux) will add more …”
This might also fit under “Other Investing” as it’s a commentary on the broader markets as well as a single fund.
