Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Unfortunately, I see a Kent State type disaster on the horizon. Will that make the do nothing congress do something? Chicago has 2.7million people to DC's 700k, BIG difference.
Glenview is among the wealthiest suburbs of Chicago Metro area & the National Guards arriving may be wondering where are the fires?
This is also Hispanic Heritage Month & there are lots of local parades & festivals around this time. Some activities have been postponed out of caution, but others are continuing as planned. Permit rules may be enforced strictly & there may be enhanced local police presence. Some of these may turn into confrontational flashpoints.
Illinois & Chicago have said that they don't want National Guards or ICE activity. Billionaire Governor PRITZKER (his family controls Hyatt) said he won't call TRUMP because that may be used as a pretext for state approval. State's plan instead is to sue to stop the deployment of National Guards or ICE. They also said that Chicago Police & Illinois State Police won't be assisting non-Illinois National Guards or ICE.
Technically, the National Guards are under the control of the state governors, but in LA, the CA National Guards were federally deputized (because the CA Governor didn't ask or approve CA National Guards deployment). But there is a kink in the US law that federalized "troops" cannot be used for local policing & eventually, CA won on this - but stuff had happened anyway.
DC is a bit different in that DC National Guards are under federal authority as DC isn't a state.
So, the LA situation is more appropriate for Chicago & Illinois & we will see how things evolve.
All a distraction coming from 1 frightened old man. The Epstein files have him rattled. Exposure of some very dark dealings loom.
The worst president is U.S. history keeps outdoing himself, but this is what was voted into office.
It does seem to be ”distraction upon distraction” doesn’t it? Remember that Alaskan red-carpet welcome, warm hand-shake and cozy ride in the Limo with Putin a few weeks ago? Since then Russia has sharply stepped-up its bombardment of Ukraine. WTH did those “peace talks” go?
And in a snub at the European leaders who accompanied Zelensky to DC, the aircraft of one of them appears to have been threatened by Russian GPS jamming days later. Where have we seen this before?
This is another distraction on DOJ release of Epstein’s massive files. Bondi wants to redact GOP names mentioned in thousand pages of document. Pressure is on from last week’s testimony from many victims. Wonder how pervasive this case can be and likely reaching far beyond human tariffing.
I think the Epstein files are the distraction from all the failures ,democracy busting ,the corruption and grifting. While folks are focused on the files everything else is going to hell. But the world’s greatest market timer is having a great year.

His M.O. has always been to ignore laws, rules, guardrails and just do what he (and Putin) want. Let the courts catch up with him. In the meantime, spam hits the fan, and he manages to do real damage.
Two words: EPSTEIN FILES. Yes, he was voted into office. A second time. Says a great deal about the moral bankruptcy of this country.
Unfortunately, I see a Kent State type disaster on the horizon. Will that make the do nothing congress do something? Chicago has 2.7million people to DC's 700k, BIG difference.
Will they do the same thing as in D.C. and focus on milling around in the safest parts of town? Or will they go deep into the places with the real violence?
Either way, same outcome, a dog and pony show with no real substance. You don't solve violence with troops parading about. Or by arresting South Korean autoworkers at their jobs. Or by deporting children and agriculture workers.
This guy is flailing about, the results of such flailing will be inconsequential when considered in retrospect.
You got that right! I'd love to see 10's of thousands Chicagoans milling about the entrances and exits around that naval compound for however long it takes.

What they would like you to think. Don't believe it. Too many statements that use the term "risk adjusted". And statements like "all that I need". The last 3 years have been a historical time to be invested in risk assets, not avoiding risk. Anyone who was trading bond oefs, and often in cash, missed life changing gains.
Now, with Trump at the helm of the U.S.S. Exxon Valdez, is the time to be cautious of risk.
I think that the folks who are truly "focused on the Epstein files" are not the folks who would have held Trump accountable anyhow. But they will be feeling the effects of his flawed economic policies. They will be among the one's losing jobs, benefits and paying more for virtually everything. Tariffs will never rise to the level that it makes sense on a large scale to bring manufacturing back here. TACO is proof of that.

As pointed out, the former Glenview Naval Air Station is in the boonies, and a very safe area. To get into the city proper from there is a traffic nightmare too. LOL
Remember all those films from the 1980's like Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club? All the Hughes movies? That is what it is like in the Glenview area. By the time any troops or forces find their way to the areas with violence, on the opposite side of Chicago proper, the whole world will know they are coming. And potential offenders will be off the streets. 98% of Chicagoland is extremely safe. I have lived here for 66 years and cannot think of a single acquaintance who has been the victim of violence. Not one!
And I used to work the night shift in the heart of the city. Sometimes going out at 3am for a burger. But, if they want to get down in the worst areas and do something useful, I say "go for it".Yet, marching around in broad daylight isn't going to accomplish squat. And good luck getting the Chicago PD to cooperate.
Wait, I remembered one acquaintance who was the victim of violence. An affluent former school principal whose wife, a teacher, murdered him in their bed. Will the troops be rounding up all the white female gym teachers? Making us all safer? After all, to these MAGA folks white males are always the victims.

There have been reports of National Guards & ICE assembling in an old naval base in the northern suburb of Glenview. See Chicago metro map:

BTW - The Feds went into Boston today.
