I'm looking for college student housing REITs. I used to have a list, but I seem to have lost it. So I was wondering if any of you know of any or recommend any or your thoughts on the space.
Speaking of REITS -- Anyone know anything about Highlands Reit? My in-law was asking for advice and I see this Highlands Reit in two of his accounts. I did some searching and it doesn't sound good. A non-tradable reit that specialized in "bad" properties? It's under .02 a share so did they go bankrupt? I'm still reading but just wondered if anyone knows the whole story?
Nontraded REITs are just that - you cannot trade them on exchanges. There may be periodic redemption windows with long queues, so partial redemptions may be possible. Off-market, one may find a buyer at large haircut. Highlands REIT has 888 MILLION (!) shares outstanding and market-cap $15 million only, so its NAV is also TINY. Don't know beyond its quote. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/HHDS/key-statistics?p=HHDS https://www.highlandsreit.com/
LOL -- well, my in-law has 1063 of those 888 million and will probably have them for a looooonnnnggg time. Sometimes I keep a real loser around just to remind myself ... "don't do that again!!" LOL
Non tradable REITS are a disaster. Even tradable ones are a problem to me as I have not spent enough time to understand their unusual accounting. Seeking Alpha seems to be gaga over them. Now the issue is have they hit bottom?
I would only go with the big, triple net ones like O or NNN or WPC. The health care REITS are garbage and full of slime balls.

Goodbye to ACC
Thanks. I didn't know that, so cross that off the investment list.
God bless
