  • Oh, YA? Esp. in light of them attempting to walk away from that big debt, I'd simply FORBID them to leave. This is not the players doing. It's management, of course. You don't like it here anymore? BITE ME. Pay.
  • This game is going on for a while.

Bear's lease at Soldier Fields (in Downtown Chicago) runs to 2033. There is clause that after 2026, it can be broken with penalties. Chicago Mayor(s) isn't in any rush to renegotiate the lease. IL Governor has indicated that IL won't put much money for an early move or at all.

Bear's are playing with buying or holding options to buy land in Arlington Heights - the old Arlington Heights Race Track. While Arlington Heights would like to have Bear's stadium financed with private or state funds, it also has an assessment dispute with Bear's on the land that it has rights on. The sticking point seems that for Arlington Heights, it was a productive land (with Race Track) and will be again if Bears build the stadium, but Bears consider it dead-land now and want dirt-low assessments beside huge local tax incentives.

It's one of those news that I would believe when something really happens, not just a new round of posturing.
  • Thanks for the low down on the Bears move or not. @yogibearbull

The Detroit Lions moved to Pontiac, a city 31 miles away, sometime around 1970 when the Silverdome opened. But for some strange reason remained “The Detroit Lions.” Then the Silverdome was ripped down sometime around 2000. I don’t know where the Lions play today. Not a football fan!

    What’s in a name?
  • The "San Francisco 49ers" haven't been in San Francisco for years now.
  • Green Bay Packers only team without one owner! If you don't own a piece of the frozen tundra shame on you. Seems to me the general public is the owner.
@ Old_Joe Will you kindle refresh my memory where they reside today?

I feel like I'm being duped by these football teams!

@Observant1 I believe you're referring to the owner(S) of the teams?
Added Maybe it's marketing ? I'll try & remember to call them the Pontiac Lions!!!
  • @Derf- Santa Clara- dawn the road a fur piece.
  • @Old_Joe Were they lured away? In other words did the taxpayer wind up paying the bill?
  • Great question: yes, the Santa Clara taxpayers.

I don't really care too much about football or major league sports (ducks to avoid projectiles).
My comment was just an offhand remark.
