Rather than my employer paying me out of pity, I'd prefer to be compensated because my employer values my contributions.
There is no silver bullet. You need to find the right balance that works for you both now and in your future.
We own one rental property and thanks to leverage it yields much more than I could get in the stock market. In terms of appreciation, over long periods it should go up in low to mid single digits. All in all, it has been a good investment for us. …
Pimco has always been a fan of derivatives also. For example PSPDX has been at it since 1993:
"PIMCO helped pioneer the innovative StocksPLUS strategy in 1986 – the same award-winning approach used across our “PLUS” portfolios, which capitalizes o…
@Dave I was tempted by RFVIX. It was a good conference call and they were offering a lower er if you bought in early. But I didn't pull the trigger. I did buy MCD and Nestle as individual stocks partly on his recommendations, which turned out wel…
ARIVX wasn't closed due to lack of assets. Eric C. decided it was in the best interests of all to close the fund as he could not find attractive investments and didn't want to charge an ER just for holding cash.
I wonder if they could have handl…
I am fascinated by Eric Cinnamonds blog. I wonder if he has a future as a journalist. He is prolific as well, posting almost daily. I do struggle to come away with actionable advice from him though. I can't sit there in 100% cash. Especially whe…

small caps have had a heck of a year! I have a position in foscx. I think it is hard to add at these levels unless in an absolute return type fund a la ICMAX
I am sorry to hear about your health. There are lots of good suggestions already. My 2 cents. I think it is possible to put together a 4% yielding portfolio without stretching. An early retiree usually needs to have more equities to get a little …
I will take BRLIX
bridgeway has some good literature about how they build their omni funds to manage tracking error, taxes, inflows and out flows, rebalancing, and managing costs.
i hold bonds for some ballast. i have been moving out of some bond funds and into individual issues that i plan to hold to maturity (exchange traded debt and preferreds).
Over the past 4 weeks FAIRX is up nearly 29%! Morningstar rates FAIRX a one star for every time period (could be some kind of record for a fund that's been around more than 10 years).
Looks like FAAFX has made it YTD gains in the past 4 weeks al…
How about Mid cap or smid cap. You could go with PARMX or PRSVX. She might like the ESG screens at Parnassus or the stability of a t rowe price mutual fund.
